Gaming for A Good Cause
Happening right now is a pretty exciting charity event. That event is Summer Games Done Quick 2015. One of two annual speed run marathons for chairty, the event was created by the Speed Demo Archive, who have been conducting marathons like this since 2010.
What this event aims to do is invite players to complete speedruns of popular games, in an effort to draw in donations to benefit Doctors Without Borders. The event is a week-long endeavor from July 26 to August 1 and features dozens of popular titles.
Some of these titles include Megaman X, Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, Silent Hill II, Shadow the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Halo 3, and many many more.
All of these speedruns are completed on their native consoles, and some of the games have specific requirements in the run. Some will require the player to complete the run on higher difficulties. Other games will add incentives for players to complete the game with all achievements or a certain percentage of completion.
On the site's streaming page, there is a Paypal donation button for viewers to donate to the cause. Donating within certain windows also enters the donor into a raffle drawing to win prizes provided by certain sponsors
Every speedrun is streamed live, and you can find the schedule for the runs here.
As of the posting of this card, the event has raised $338,507 for Doctors Without Borders
