Jimmy Kimmel, a normally witty and fun late night host, took a serious turn last night to address the killing of Cecil the lion. For those of you who aren't aware of the story, an American hunter recently maimed and killed a 13-year-old lion in Zimbabwe. The lion turned out to be Cecil, a beloved zoo attraction and the subject of an Oxford University study.
People everywhere are obviously outraged with the hunter, who has a terrible track record of killing several big-game animals. Jimmy makes an appropriate amount of jokes at the hunter's expense before taking a serious turn and calling him out for his awful behavior.

"The big question is why are you shooting a lion in the first place? Why does a human being feel compelled to do that?"

Jimmy even tears up towards the end, getting uncharacteristically emotional about the tragic killing.
The best part about this video comes at the end when Jimmy inspires us to make some positive change come from this terrible story. If you want to learn more about Cecil or donate to important animal research, visit

"Maybe we can show the world that not all Americans are like this jackhole."

I don't know why anyone would feel the need to kill a lion. It seems so cruel to me. I hope there is something that the law can do to make him accountable for what he did.

@JordanNash I'm not sure what the laws surrounding this are, but same here! It's so horrible and just seems like totally unnecessary...
