Despite the huge success Macklemore and Ryan Lewis achieved with their album “The Heist” in 2012, the duo have yet to release a new project. Today, the Seattle native shared the reason for the stall on new music: a recent relapse with within his addiction to weed and pills.
During the sit down with Complex, Macklemore shared the details on his use of weed and pills. “I was super-stressed,” he said. “We weren’t sleeping—doing a show every day, zigzagging all over the country. In terms of the media I was getting put into a box that I never saw for myself. The pressure and the fame—everything…I just wanted to escape.”

The recent relapse played a role in the dynamic duo’s ability to create a follow up to “The Heist.”

Macklemore cleaned up after finding out that his fiancée, Tricia, was pregnant. The rap titan now attends 12 step meetings everyday. “I was like, I need to grow up right now,” he declared. “I have to keep myself on point and be the best version of myself for this child to be the best version of itself.” From the looks of it, we may have new music on the way from the dynamic duo.

Do you think Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will produce a better project than The Heist in their second album?

@jeff4122 it was even harder for Macklemore because he became a superstar overnight. He was being exposed to a lot of new things so fast. I'm happy he has cleaned up and is focused on the music again. Macklemore is dope (even though I think Ryan Lewis doesn't get enough credit for their success)
Interesting. It really goes under the radar how much of a toll touring can take on artists. You see it all the time, where guys just get burned out after a while. Putting the same kind of energy into each show can be really hard. Good for him for cleaning up though.
You can't be addicted to weed, but the pills? Man that stuff screws you up.
@jeff4122 Yeah, I read somewhere that Diplo toured 240 of 365 days last year. That is UNREAL. Everyone needs down time to rest and recharge.
