#ThrowbackThursday fashion edition: The Parent Trap

The iconic movie, The Parent Trap, turned 17 years old yesterday, which makes me feel incredibly old, and I'm not sure I'm okay with that feeling. Anyway, here is a trip down memory lane to look at the fashion from The Parent Trap.

Meredith

Ah, the woman who could never dress appropriately for any occasion. Her style can best be described as unnecessarily sophisticated. When you are on a camping trip with two kids and your fiance, it's best to not wear the same outfit you would wear to your 30-minute spin class. If you hanging out at a pool, don't wear the same outfit that you would wear to the Kentucky Derby. Meredith was always dressed to impress, even when it was absolutely unnecessary.

Elizabeth James

Where Meredith was unnecessarily sophisticated, Elizabeth knew when to dress casually and when to go for a more sophisticated look. She dresses casually at the ranch, but turns on the sophistication at her wedding dress shop. She also dresses with an air of elegance and effortlessness that is unparalleled.

Annie and Hallie

Growing up in different countries definitely had an impact on Annie and Hallie's styles. Hallie, who grew up in California, dresses in the stereotypical '90s style: jean jackets, plaid and t-shirts. Annie, who grew up in England, dresses a little differently. She goes for more of a European style with a matching pantsuit, form-fitting sweatpants and collared shirts.

TBT: Fashion Icons of the Early 2000's
We all remember the early 2000's, and the girls who set the trends for us in our Teen People magazines. Forget Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Aniston; for those of us who were at the most impressionable ages of 10 to 16 in the aughts, these teen idols ruled our worlds, and the clothes they wore made us want to dress and be like them. Let's take a group throwback and look at some of the teens and tweens who dictated early aughts fashion. Amanda Bynes In Amanda's heyday, she was quite the tween idol, and had a pretty recognizable style on top of that. Brightly printed pants and skirts were her thing, only turning to denim in the form of an often-worn stonewash denim jacket. Her tight-fitting tees were the understated point on her outfits, which were always topped off with mini ponitails and braids on the top of her head that didn't not resemble antlers. Jessica Simpson In the days of "Newlyweds," Nick and Jessica were a couple we all thought would last, and Jessica's All-American fashion sense seemed like everything. Though her off-duty tracksuits and trucker hats showed a disinterest in fashion, her southern stagewear was all the rage. Who else here bought a pair of cowboy boots hoping we could get the Daisy Duke look? No? Just me? Hilary Duff As Lizzie McGuire, Hilary Duff seriously influenced many of our tween years and, consequentially, what we chose to wear. Like Amanda, Lizzie wore many a wacky updo, but combined them with accessories galore, from headbands to hairclips to layered necklaces. For clothes, she had a much more pseudo-bohemian thing going on, wearing peasant tops and blouses with bell sleeves to match her bell bottoms. Mandy Moore This actress didn't have anyone fooled with her occasional belly shirts; she was a good girl at heart and we knew it and loved her for it. She encouraged us to go ahead with that bob or pixie cut; how else would we show off our favorite chandelier earrings. Her fashion sense was sugary sweet to match her personality, and she definitely encouraged me to wear more pink. Britney Spears It didn't matter if she wore jumpsuits or miniskirts or spandex or lace; what Britney had, we all wanted. Her style was a neverending whirlwind of sex appeal, which many of her fans were too young to understand at the time, but we knew we would never be her. Rhinestones and a bare midriff seemed like the key to her style, but who knows, the next day she might be wearing head-to-toe leather. Oh Britney, you always kept us guessing. Rihanna Remember when Rihanna frist blew onto the scene with "Pon de Replay" in 2005 and our worlds were changed forever? Forget what a true style star she is today; Ri Ri's early style made us all want to wear tops that began and ended with our boobs, toned down with baggy pants and chunky kicks. Never forget oversized hoop earrings, which were the ultimate sign your style was "funky". Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen When Mary Kate and Ashley neared the end of their reign of movies together, they were at the height of their tween popularity. We couldn't all have a beautiful identical twin to coordinate outfits with, but we could crimp our hair and layer short sleeves over long sleeves and look almost as cute as them. Lindsay Lohan Who didn't covet Lindsay's punk-meets-pop style in the days of Freaky Friday? Her long red locks were too cool (especially with blonde streaks), and her cargo pant, tight top combinations were to die for. So early 2000's, so lovable. If only we knew how little we'd be seeing her in ten years. ...and then we have Christina Aguilera, and I don't know what I can say about her look, other than that my mother definitely didn't want her to be my style icon. Everything about her was sexy, cool, and dirrty. I stayed in the Lizzie McGuire style, but who did you model yourself after?
Review with Mew; The Blonds x DISNEY VILLAINS : SS2019 w @ NYFW
Mew here, and I was feeling particularly villainous today, so to also get you in the wicked mood I did a quick review of one of my favorite runways inspired by my favorite Disney villains. One of my all time favorite fashion runways is luxury fashion brand THE BLONDS presenting their SS’19 collection which was inspired by some of our hated? loved?Disney villains. The designers were undoubtedly successful in capturing the essence of Disney's most wicked characters! Here’s a look at my favorite pieces and their inspirations: The show started out with one of the baddest baddies in Disney: Malificent Malificent's coat was the inspiration and the piece was modeled by one of the designers himself Philippe Blond. He left the runway bloody after that walk but then proceeded to clean it up using one of my FAVE pieces of the night! Sir I respect your vision but please no…that looks expensive. Me, with my poison apple in tow, on my way to poison my 2nd husband after he writes me into his will: ± Next section was dedicated to Dr Facilier the CREEPiest villain to grace Disney Animation since Jafar…: Dr Facilier He still gives me chills whenever I think about his creepy smile but as an inspiration for this number? CHILLS ..but the good kind this time. The gold detailing on that vest is almost hypnotizing. ± Next up we have Wicked Witch of the Seas, ready to take your breath away! : Ursula Loved the webbed finger gloves and floorlength purple feathers; pay homage to the queen. And what is a sea witch without her cronies, eels Flotsam and Jetsam modeled by the ever stunning Dupont Twins. We LOVE a skin-tight bodysuit and highlighter green. ± THE MAIN EVENT was definitely Paris Hilton on her Cruella De Vil ish, modeling with her cute chihuahua. : Cruella De Vil The red lip contrast to the black and white mix thigh boots? A LOOK *No Dalmatians were harmed in the making of this STRUT* 101 Reasons to love this fur ensemble.^ Feeling nasty yet? ± Personally I LOVED every piece but these were a few of my favorites. Watch the entire runway show here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhdsnE0BR7s And let me know your favorite Disney villain look!
What Did You Think of Okja?
I finally had the time to watch Okja this weekend and I am so glad I did! If you didn't see any info about it you can read my card --> here! Basic summary: A food corporation is breeding a new kind of pig, they gave 26 of them to farmers around the world and made a competition of who could raise the biggest pig. Okja is one of the pigs, and has become part of the family in her Korean home. When she's taken away - her little girl will stop at nothing to get her back! !! !!! !! SPOILERS AHEAD!!! !! !!! !! First off, I was surprised by how fast it went. The 2 hours totally flew by! I also loved how they played with Korean, and since I was able to understand it it made it even funnier. Like when the leader of the ALF was like "40 long years ago we founded this great blahbalhabalahbal...." and Steve Yeun's character was just like "매날" hahahah I did like it, but I have one tiny issue with it... Lucy Mirando's character: She was totally manic. She was an absolute nut which made her so fun to watch. The problem is though, that it makes her character, her company, and what that corporation is doing, seem like an exaggeration. It really isn't :/ The horrible conditions, violent "forced mating" aka rape, and unnecessary pain is totally normal in the food industry. Now yes, there are local farmers that still treat their animals with dignity, and I don't think Okja was anti-meat. I think Okja is talking about the HUGE corporations that are doing pretty horrible things to our food. From using totally unsustainable ways of farming to putting animals in completely unnecessary conditions (like I said, I know there are farmers that raise animals in a sustainable way - not talking about those people!!) I hope Okja opened a lot of eyes, but I also hope people won't write the Mirando Corp off as an exaggeration because, as scary as it is, that is so SO close to reality. What did you think!?
Fictional Characters I Would Date
So I saw this card by @sophiamor about dating fictional characters, and while it wasn't a challenge, it got me thinking and then I wanted to make a card myself. So I'm presenting a challenge if you want, let us know who you would date!! 1. Sesshomaru Let's be honest, Sesshomaru was amazing!! He never wavered and only did what was best for him and those under his care. He would be devoted, brilliant, deadly, and extremely protective, not to mention super hot! Plus, you get a little sister!! 2. Samwise Gamgee Let's be honest, Frodo Baggypants had nothing on Sam. Everyone knows he was the real hero of LOTR. He is sweet all throughout the journey, and he's loyal, devoted, and he never lost his ability to hope and love. He did change, but it only made stronger and gave him the desire to appreciate life and love. Could you ask for a better friend or partner? I think not. 3. Mr. Darcy Oh Fitzwillialm! Lol. I've always been in love with Mr. Darcy since I knew about Pride and Prejudice. Every time I reread the book or rematch the movies (I own two different versions) I fall in love with him all over again. He is a devoted brother, friend, and master; he's also smart, resourceful, connected, hard-working and has a good character about him. What could be better? 4. Momiji Sohma He was my favorite from the beginning: devoted friend, big brother, son, and no matter how dark everything got, he never stopped loving. He tried to stay positive and loved others even when it was painful and he's get nothing in return. Also, he became extremely handsome as an adult. I would have chosen him in a heartbeat. 5. Prince Derek He's one of my favorite non-Disney princes, and let's be honest, even compared to many Disney princes, lol. He's strong, fast, brave, loyal, smart, and loving. He's truly the perfect prince in so many ways. I'd love to date him. 6. Merlin He's loyal almost to a fault. Could you ask for more from a guy? He does all sorts of odd-end jobs, he'd be perfect for all the house chores like mowing the lawn, plumbing, fixing doorknobs, etc. He is hard-working and would give his life for you. Plus, he has a great sense of humor and despite his abilities remains (mostly) humble and honorable. Truly a treasure. Very true, lol. I had a hard time deciding on who i would actually date, and finally settled on these awesome guys. @InVinsybll, @taylor619cruz, @neevp, @AimeBolanos, @hikaymm, @saori99, @BlackoutZJ, @CreeTheOtaku, @Sharia, @Janxsalas, @nick2232, @koifries, @SimoneSanders, @EmiiAlcid, @NightcoreOtaku, @3awl, @kevauna12, @Lushisushi, @coraweiland, @Hinatahyuga, @UsagiChan, @DietraAngelus, @desireesowah143, @AcaciaNguyen, @HokageJess, @lovethe90s, @KaitlynBottoms, @MinakoTsan, @JeffPalmer, @AllieGrabowski, @sarahdarwish, @SierraBecerra, @jojojordy2324, @ReynadeKpop, @maddiedo, @kyokeo, @MomoChamie, @daniimals, @shelbiisonfire, @pinkfluffyunico, @mycreativename, @Juliag13, @Sankeerthana, @SunsQistina, @NekoYoongi, @kwonsooshi, @sosoaloraine, @SilentPianist, @megancurrent19, @Ligaya, @Defy24601, @koreanfan99, @P1B2Bear, @Yattamae, @Infynitee, @FatimaGarciaa, @Zurny, @wow12wow, @Cx5228, @thatoneoutcast@kpopandkimchi, @Miss148, @honeysoo, @iamrotamrot, @AimeeH, @StephanieDuong, @KaceyDodge, @B1A4BTS5ever, @kpopGaby, @PassTheSuga, @MattK95, @Starbabes, @baileykayleen, @byeolbit, @NatMarie, @KhrystinaLee, @sugajin94, @AgentLeo, @XergaB20, @netchtiBates, @CheyenneJessee, @allischaff, @ocherrylimeadeo, @Meeshell, @ravirie, @DeeNice, @HappyGLAlexis, @Viresse, @AlmaRangel, @edwinb94, @IzzyPerkins, @Boekyeol27, @solodaywithB1A4, @YvonJerzak, @wonsikbrah, @TaeJinMaknae, @TesneemElAlami, @Mastermind2K16, @kelseyblair, @ciabrizz, @Dahliadang, @KellyOConnor, @JustinaMclean, @ToriDaldegan, @ashelynlandon15, @kpopular, @StarlightDria, @RecklessYouth, @AlatheaOwan, @JazminOrozco, @Adetoro, @kpopgirl42, @NayizX3, @squeakk, @paksaedi, @Elanana, @xxxtina, @BTSinsfires@JiyongLeo, @lovetop, @lilbr0wneyes, @resavalencia, @IsoldaPazo, @KristinaCaron, @SarangRavi, @goinnutz22, @JenGambale, @ElishaFisher, @Mikim000, @TesneemAlami, @VeronicaArtino, @jenxchan, @deilig@jessicaacosta90, @KhrystinaLee, @ElleHolley, @JaiiPanda, @ashleyemmert, @Isolate, @sarabear1021, @EliseB, @Lexxsisco, @ScarletMermaid, @Nadinerzz, @narutobandgeek
Beauty Products That'll Stop You From Looking Like Death
Don't act like you're not a hot mess when you go out...because you are. Every girl needs some products that will kick in when the chips are down. With these products in your arsenal, you'll never look sloppy, even when you are. 1. Eye Brightener / Cream Hi-Liter: Benefit's Hi-Beam This product will distract from bags, cuts, scrapes, whatever. It'll actually illuminate your skin when it gets dull after a night of drinking. It's the perfect product to bring along with you because you can apply it anywhere. It comes in a handy dandy stick applicator and one swipe can take away the damage you did to your face with all that alcohol. Look how flawless and guilt free that girl's face looks. 2. Baby Powder Any brand. Any time. Baby powder has some magical properties. It's hella cheaper than dry shampoo and does virtually the same thing. Also, If one of your enemies spills beer in your hair and you're left with a greasy mess, baby powder will be there to fix that. Likewise if you wake up a fucking wreck and have to go to work, just pepper your head with this magic dust and you'll be all better. Well, not all better, but you'll look okay. 3. Clear Brow Gel / Mac's Brow Set This is another two in one product. Although it's "technically" for your eyebrows you can totally use this on your lashes. And if you're super concerned with drunk crying or something, it's a lot better than traditional black mascara. This product will come in handy when you take that 2AM trip to the bar bathroom when realize what an effing mess you are. Get it together. Although, I absolutely never go without black mascara. It's dramatic yo. 4. CC Cream / Olay This CC (stands for color correction for all of you blotchy skinned biotches) Cream is the bomb. You can pick it up at the drug-store for around 13 dollars and it's a great substitute for foundation. It honestly, can cover up anything that hi-beam leaves behind. Your night can go south super quickly, and when it does, this product will be there to dry your tears. Well, not really, but it'll cover them up. 5. Double Trouble Cheek and Lip / Benefit's Bene-tint Benefit is the number one beauty company for two-use products. Bene-tint is the go to product for a little color in your lip and cheek. It's a buildable product, so you can get a sheer, glowy finish or a blood red one depending on how many coats you apply. So when all the color leaves your skin because you're dehydrated from whatever you were doing last night, pull this one out of your purse...trust me it'll save your life.
