Learn To Love Running Like Lena Dunham

Lena found love for running in a hopeless pace ;)

Yes, that was punny. Anyways, Lena Dunham is hitting the streets finding her love for running. On Wednesday, July 29th, the girls star posted the photo above with a very uplifting Instagram post. Though Dunham isn't a fan of paparazzi photos, she sure did appreciate this one for multiple reasons.
"Promised myself I would not let exercise be the first thing to go by the wayside when I got busy with Girls Season 5 and here is why: it has helped with my anxiety in ways I never dreamed possible. To those struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression: I know it's mad annoying when people tell you to exercise, and it took me about 16 medicated years to listen. I'm glad I did. It ain't about the ass, it's about the brain."

"Not usually one to post a paparazzi shot but this fills me with pride. Basically my whole life I have hated running and run like a wounded baby Pterodactyl. It was embarrassing and honestly I did not trust myself to escape a burning building or even move briskly towards a buffet. @jennikonner is directing the season finale of Girls and decided that as Hannah evolved so would her run, so she got me a training session with Matt Wilpers from Mile High Run Club. Within an hour I had a different relationship to this formerly torturous activity. I felt strong, swift and proud. I'm not about to embrace that triathlon life but it's a true joy to continue getting more connected to my body and its powers. I think it's really great that Dunham is on a health kick and I hope she maintains it. The most important aspect though is that she feels comfortable in her own skin. There is so much fat shaming in today's media that she'll probably get an insane amount of praise for this picture for running. But she should get praise because she looks great and I applaud anyone who exercises to be healthy, not thin, but HEALTHY. I hate running too and it's nice to see a celebrity give an honest opinion on it. Exercise is to feel better, not all of the superficial benefits, those are just bonus. I'm rooting for you Lena Dunham!

I'm really glad she posted that caption. I have a lot of friends who struggle with anxiety and stress (and I'm one of them - lol) and sometimes it's like 鈥撀爃ow many times do I have to tell you how much exercise will improve your life before you actually LISTEN? Lena's right 鈥撀爄t's not about the ass, it's about the brain. Running (or biking, or swimming, or just getting out there and doing any kind of aerobic exercise) will DRASTICALLY improve your mental health.
Thank you for sharing this. I know it may sound strange but I'm learning to run... I always thought it was just take off and go! Not so 馃榾 I had to learn to breath a certain way and pace myself. I'm currently power walking / jogging I hope to be running by November.
@Emescia That's awesome! Taking small steps to lead to your goal is a great way to go! You should write some cards about your progress. I know there would be a ton of people who would get some inspiration from that! Good luck in your training!
