Perpetual college kids rejoice! Flying disc sports are now officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) was recognized by the committee and Ultimate Frisbee was one of the recognized sports. And yes the World Flying Disc Federation is a thing...
These disc sports also include Disc Golf and Freestyle.
But don’t get too excited yet Frisbee fans...this doesn't mean that it will be an event in the next Olympics. It’s only recognized. It still has to compete against other sports to be in the Olympics, but recognition is the first step.
Another cool thing about Ultimate Frisbee is that it does not have a referee and relies on "sportsmanship and fair play.” Talk about sports and camaraderie!
So all of the college kids out on the quad tossing and running...keep it up. You may be in the Olympics 7 years from now! Just don’t injure yourself in the process.
I’ve never done Frisbee Golf actually! But that’s on my list of things to try though @ButterflyBlu
Several of my friends play Ultimate Frisbee. It's really fun to watch two great teams play. Frisbee Golf is sick. I will never understand how they make some of those shots. I sure can't do it!!
@nicolejb I've tried. I'm not good at it at ALL. I throw the Frisbee everywhere Except the hole. If there is no target, I can throw it straight. >.< It's embarrassing. So the only time I'll play is in a relay style team. Lol. Yes you should definitely try it!! :D
