At the beginning of July, I wrote about how the month would probably define the season for the Mets.

It did - kind of.

At the time, the Mets were 3 games over .500, 2 games back of the Wild Card. Now, they are 5 games over, and actually find themselves in much better position to win the division than the Wild Card. Go figure.
All things considered, the Mets got it done this month, capped by an amazing weekend sweep of the Nationals to close out July.

The Mets set themselves up really well for a good run at the playoffs with their activity in July.

A few really good, aggressive trades combined with amazing pitching and some timely hitting by Lucas Duda, Wilmer Flores and a few others has put them on the map.
As it stands, the Mets are the team that everyone is talking about right now. They've got the momentum, they've got an easy schedule the rest of the way, and, suddenly, they look as if they've got the players they needed.
Here's a nifty video from SNY that recaps some great moments in July. Some good memories in there - Niewenhuis's 3-homer game, Duda's bomb, and, of course, Flores's walk off this past Friday.

The overall record in July was 15-13. They played some really top quality opponents, and they got it done, for the most part.

It's tough to complain about where the Mets sit. The Nationals continue to struggle, leaving the door open for the Mets to swoop in and take the division for the first time since 2006.

Maybe. Just maybe.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's look ahead to August.
