DIY Solid Perfume Balms

Did you happen to see the homemade perfume card I shared a week ago? You can see it by clicking here. However, this is a different idea where using perfume, you can create solid balms. This easy diy allows you to pour into moulds or into cosmetic trays. These would be perfect for camping, on-the-go and for cute gifts to your girlfriends.

Supplies Needed:

Beeswax
Sweet Almond Oil (or another carrier oil such as coconut)
Fragrance oils of your choice (Lemon, Sandalwood, Vanilla, and Lavender)
Containers to hold your perfume (cosmetic trays, lockets, tins, etc.)

Step 1.

Recipe is always the same because it's based on ratios: equal parts beeswax and carrier oil. Start a small batch of 2 tbsp of beeswax and 2 tbsp of carrier oil.
TIP: If you find your beeswax/oil mixture to be too thick once you are melting down, you can always add a little more oil as you go.

Step 2.

Get your perfume scent on point before you start the melting process. Make sure it's a subtle scent. A good rule of thumb is to create a scent that isn't so strong that it would prevent you from having a good night's rest.
Start with 10-15 drops and increase from there.
TIP: So much "smelling" may turn off your receptors, preventing you from smelling the fragrance. To reset your senses and start over, take a whiff of coffee beans. This will clear the scent from your head.

Step 3.

Prep your containers for hot wax. You want lids off and everything prepped and open.

Step 4.

Use a double boiler to heat your beeswax and oil on the stove. DO NOT MICROWAVE! Be sure to heat your beeswax on low/medium heat and stir as it melts down. Add your fragrance oil into the melted mixture once the beeswax is completely melted.

Step 5.

Carefully pour the hot wax into your containers. They will start to harden quickly. If they harden too fast, simply return to the double boiler and heat up. Let this set up and harden. Then you are able to slide it onto your skin for a silky perfume balm that will feel and smell amazing!

Victoria's Secret Perfume Repels Mosquitoes. Really.
When you're out getting a head start on your Christmas shopping this weekend, you might want to stop off at Victoria's Secret and pick up some perfume. A recent study published in the Journal of Insect Science has shown a pretty interesting relationship between mosquitoes and the Victoria's Secret perfume 'Bombshell', finding that wearing this perfume can actually prevent mosquito bites - sometimes more effectively than leading insect repellents currently on the market. The perfume - priced at a hefty $68 per bottle - might not be the most economical choice when selecting a bug repellent. However, researchers at New Mexico State's Molecular Vector Physiology Lab insist that discovering what makes this perfume so effective could help product developers continue moving away from the current active ingredient in most repellents on the market - DEET, a potentially toxic oil that can cause allergic reactions to those with sensitive skin. The lab tested 10 different repellents against a control and found that while DEET-based repellents worked more effectively overall, for a non-DEET product, the perfume remained a steadily effective repellent for over 2 hours. So, why does this Victoria's Secret perfume work so effectively? According to the report, the perfume was chosen for its purple passionfruit, peony, and vanilla orchid notes, citing that the team was interested in finding a correlation between mosquito activity and 'fruity, floral' fragrances. "There was some previous literature that said fruity, floral scents attracted mosquitoes, and to not wear those. It was interesting to see that the mosquitoes weren't actually attracted to the person that was wearing the Victoria's Secret perfume - they were repelled by it." So, will you be spritzing on some floral notes the next time you head out into the mosquito-filled world? Or would you much rather spring for a standard repellent - DEET and all? Boost the efficiency of your DIY projects using hand tools and power tools
Do you enjoy spending a lot of time in your garage or mowing your lawn? If you do, you're probably going to utilize a variety of equipment to complete these sorts of DIY tasks. Hand tools and power tools are two of the most popular DIY tools items that you will need to complete any DIY project to a high level of excellence. When used with safety equipment, power tools may help ensure a high degree of precision in DIY projects and can provide satisfying results. Hand tools, on the other hand, are the majority of hand-held instruments that do not require power to operate, unlike power tools. Wrenches, screwdrivers, and pliers are among the most often-used hand tools in DIY tasks. Power tools like air blowers, mitre saws, and rotary sanders are ideal for a variety of DIY tools, from auto repair to furniture building and kitchen renovations. Oscillating saws, for example, are excellent for cutting through panel flushes, which is generally impossible with other types of metal. When painting a cabinet or piece of furniture in your house, paint sprayers are ideal. These sprayers are ideal for painting cabinets in the kitchen. The advantage of these sprayers is that they deliver a finer paint spray, which reduces paint drips. Latex paint, oil-based primer, and water-based polyurethane may all be sprayed using these sprayers. It works well with oil-based primers when painted with thinner paint. What's more fascinating is that there are a variety of DIY projects where you may utilize both hand and power equipment at the same time. One of them is garage upkeep. Adjustable wrenches, hammers, and combination wrench sets are some of the most typical hand tools needed for a garage repair operation. Aside from this, a variety of additional hand tools, such as side cutters, wire strippers, a mallet, and vise grips, will come in helpful on a variety of occasions. If you just have a restricted budget, you can start making your own hand tools. Hand tools, unlike power tools, do not take up a lot of room and may be kept in a small area. The advantage of power tools is their capacity to complete a large amount of work in a short amount of time. They can also help you complete a lot of work that you would not be able to perform with hand tools. Cordless drills are one of the most effective power tools for completing hand tools to a high degree of precision. This tool may help you cut holes for drains, doorknobs, and bolts in a short amount of time, as well as polish your car when used with a polishing attachment. Circular saws and bench grinders are two more power equipment worth investing in. With the fast advancements in technology, there are several cordless versions of power tools available on the market. There are many of powerful yet tiny versions to choose. Despite the fact that hand tools are easier to use, newer versions of power tools are released on a regular basis. As a result, after you've decided on the specific tools you'd want to have, you'll have plenty of possibilities. So, when it comes to picking hand and power tools, what criteria will you consider? When choosing them, look for ones that are low in weight and have a small footprint. Choose well-designed equipment with finer grooves that fit well in your hands. The soft tissues of your hand will be less stressed if you utilize tools with short handles. Choose instruments that don't require a finger grasp. Instead, go with the ones that have a full-hand power grip. Sharp edges and pinch points on tools are typically dangerous to use since they can cut or squeeze your fingers while in use. As a result, even if you're wearing gloves, you should choose the ones that won't cut or pinch your fingers. This will make it easier for you to work with this equipment and complete DIY tasks quickly and efficiently.

Online Internet Auction 21st Century Auction House
Internet Auctions have become so popular because they are a lot of FUN. Additionally, they are a great way to earn a living as of May 22, 2008, Newsweek article explains. At that time it was estimated 1.3 million people, mostly in the U.S., earned their income this way. For many others, it's a wonderful way to supplement income and sure beats garage sales if you have a lot of somethings to sell. There are (probably) thousands of several very cool auction sites on the Internet. I was going to try to get a realistic estimate but Berkshire Select's Anything Research report was going to cost $99-$199 so I decided to shoot from the hip on this. Let's start with two of the most well-known. Nearly everyone has heard of Sotheby's. This renowned auctioneer was founded in 1744 and focuses on fine art, diamonds, realty and wine. Their online auction presence is called Sotheby's. Another famous auction house is Christie's. Founded in 1766, they offer over 80 categories including fine arts, jewelry, collectibles and wine. They too have an online presence called Christie'sLIVE. โ€ขBid4Assets, founded in 1999 is a leading real estate auction house with an eye toward becoming the "go-to marketplace for buying and selling value-priced real estate- property valued at less than $100K." โ€ขWebidz calls itself "The Other Auction Site" whose goal is being a major alternative to eBay making buying and selling fun and affordable again while they become "a highly regarded online auctions marketplace." โ€ขbidStart is an online auction house with an exclusive focus on collectibles. By "understanding the collector, bidStart is able to offer collectors a home and sense of community which is lost on most other auction websites." โ€ขeBid is a global auction marketplace with 3,238,879 auctions running in 10,782 categories at the time of this writing. With a virtual presence in over 15 countries, they are positioned to go head to head against eBay. There are many live auction websites in addition to Sotheby's and Christie's such as Auctionzip, and Heritage Auctions (ha.com) where you can bid from your computer during live auctions. Amazing. And fun. My husband and I were watching Antiques Roadshow last night on public television. The way this particular appraisal was going, I was starting to feel queasy on behalf of the guest who was about to get some bad news about three African Art objects she purchased for $4500 a decade ago. The appraiser told her they were probably worth $500-600 total. When asked if the Seller had provided any guarantees as to their authenticity, the lady said no. I'm sorry but my sympathy for this person began to wane. There is only so much we can do to fight fraud on the Internet but we can certainly start by exercising common sense. I consider $4500 to be a nice chunk of change and it doesn't matter how fascinating they appear or how "lavish" the seller's descriptions, I want documentation! If the Seller of these objects happens across my article let me tell you right now, I believe what goes around comes around. Someone, somewhere, somehow, sometimes... This experience is not representative of the vast majority of internet auction experiences. If it was, they wouldn't be so outrageously popular. It can be enormously satisfying to win an auction. Even more so when you know you got one heck-of-a-deal on a high-quality object. If you can't tell by now, I'm a fan of Internet auctions. Cupid Countdown: Chic Love Story
Alright ladies, I wanted to share a card about dressing the part of your love story. And I'd LOVE to hear your love story, which you can comment on below, or even better, write a card about it! (YAY!!!!) When it comes to fashion, the basis of everything that we wear is utilitarianism--functional garments. However, that's just the beginning. The rest of it is based on style, beauty, trends, ideas, visions, goals and STORY. If you can believe it, we're not only well into 2016, but marching through February on a steady course. Two months in, with Valentine's Day peeking 'round the bend, what are you wearing to tell/attract your epic love story? When you interview for a job, you're told to dress for success; my contention is that we should be dressing for all areas of success in our lives. Are you looking for love? Maybe you're totally crushing right now. Are you dressing in a way that respects WHO YOU ARE while still telling your story? I put together this really cute #februarychic story board. It's about being fun, flirty, modest and love-story ready! GUCCI Plissรฉ lamรฉ mini dress $1,490 Gucci's mini dress is crafted from baby-pink lamรฉ that shimmers with silver yarns - the plissรฉ pleats add texture to create a high-shine effect. The classic shift silhouette is cinched at the center by an elasticated waist. The modesty of the neckline balances the length of the skirt. The glittering reflection of the lame gives this a flirty spice, while the soft color pink is delicate, feminine and Valentine appropriate. SAINT LAURENT Jane metallic lizard-effect leather sandals $695 Saint Laurent's signature 'Jane' sandals are updated in glossy rose gold lizard-effect leather. This Italian-made pair is designed with slim straps for a leg-lengthening effect. Virtually identical to the Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandal (that I LOVE), this is a modern approach to reptile as it has a pink-gold metal finish that is so hard to come by. It matches the dress without being matchy-matchy. And the open-toe sandal design is STUNNING! ROCKINS Flora printed silk crepe de chine scarf $29 The watercolor-inspired print that decorates Rockins' scarf pays homage to the botanical creations of Flora Starkey. This skinny style is cut from silk crepe de chine and finished with glossy fringing. Fringe may still be a by product of what was popular in 2015, but it's totally appropriate for this time of year as it adds a layer of modesty, femininity and "warmth" if his arms aren't already wrapped around you. The floral print says that you love all things pretty, especially flowers and wouldn't mind stopping by a sidewalk florist for a handful of posies. CHANEL No. 5 Perfume $100 Elegance. Beauty. Sophistication. And modern sensuality. Classic Chanel perfume fragrance that has stood the test of time and caressed the naked bodies of both women and men, vicariously. J. Lo said it best, "I judge people by how they smell, not what they look like." AMEN! Make sure you're hygiene is on point and your perfume is delicate, soft, yet punctuated with classic notes that tell YOUR STORY. Chanel may not be for you, but you should wear something that accents and works well with your body's chemistry. Wear just enough that he has to keep leaning in, closer and closer to get that intoxicating aroma. Too much will ward him off--doing the exact opposite of what you want. Now it's your turn!
