In search of making the best cocktails at home or for special events, there are really three key components:
Fresh ingredients
Quality liquor
Expert mixologist
While it's not impossible to have all three, it's not as typical as you might think. Making matters worse, there are millions of wannabes at pool parties bastardizing classics without a lick of shame about it. It's rough out there. And though I AM NOT A PRO, I never pretend to be.
For this card, you're going to learn how to make herb syrups. I just shared a card on Garden Gimlets that you can see here. Well, the recipe calls for herb syrup. So...where do you buy it? You don't; you make it! Here's how to do it:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
HERBAL FLAVOR OPTIONS (Choose 1 herb per batch of Simple Syrup)
5 fresh basil sprigs (5-7 inches long), about 1.5 oz.
4 fresh rosemary sprigs (5-7 inches long), about .5 oz.
1 large handful fresh mint sprigs, about 1.5 oz.
6 fresh thyme sprigs (3-4 inches long), about .5 oz.
8 bay leaves
Small saucepan
fine mesh strainer (or cheesecloth)
8 ounce glass bottle or jar with tight fitting lid
1. Gently rinse your herbs, keeping them separated.
2. Bring sugar and water to a boil, stirring to avoid burning.
3. Add herbs, boiling for 60 seconds. Remove from heat and steep for 30 minutes. Remove herbs with a slotted spoon and allow mix to cool.
4. Pour the cooled syrup through a fine mesh strainer or multiple layers of cheesecloth into a glass bottle or jar.
Label your syrup infusions accordingly and store sealed in the refrigerator.

laziness. it's just easier to skip the herb step and make simple syrup.
of course. I don't get why people would by a mint syrup or sweet and sour mix and like margarita mix. eeewww haha. :)
I love making my own herb syrup, mint is my favourite and it goes well with mojito, when replaced with boring simple syrup.
@rodiziketan I knew you'd approve
So simple! why haven't I done this sooner
