Weddings and passed shrimp cocktail were simply made for each other. There is nothing like the taste and texture of biting into a cool piece of shrimp that has been dunked in spicy cocktail sauce. It's like a seafarer's version of an edible bloody mary mocktail, if that makes sense!
If you're in the do-it-yourself mode of planning your budget-conscious wedding, then this is a terrific way to whet your guests appetites with this passed hors d'oeuvre.
The recipe here makes 1 1/2 cups. So you will need to multiply this considerably for a wedding:
1 cup ketchup
1 1/2 tablespoon horseradish
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1⁄2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1 dash pepper
Mix everything together and chill.
When filling tall shot glasses, it's helpful to use a tapered-tip squeeze bottle, which can be found at restaurant supply stores. Avoid using a baker's piping bag.
Prep shot glasses with cocktail sauce before the reception. This isn't something that should be put together on the spot.
