Disclaimer: this is the most ridiculous Lyric of the Day that I've posted to date.
Beck is an oddball, but you already knew that. He's also really, really good at making music, and that is a beautiful combination in the music world. His 1999 Midnite Vultures is chock-full of ridiculous parody-style music, and the pick of the lot is "Debra."
In "Debra," Beck satirizes soul music. There's only one problem: he's trying to make fun of soul music, but he's so damn good that he actually just goes on and makes an amazing soul song. "Debra" has got that funky, groovy bass beat and the love-song lyrics, but they are unlike any love song you know. I HIGHLY recommend you check out the full lyrics, because the song tells a preposterous story about meeting a cashier at J.C. Penny and falling in love with the cashier and her sister - Debra.
"Girl, I only wanna be there with you
'Cause you got something that I just got to get with
I'll pick you up late at night after work
I said 'Lady, step inside my Hyundai'"
Look, just go listen to the song, alright?
Happy weekend. Be safe, be wild n' crazy. If you can manage both of 'em.
