Stoop Stories: When People Watching Turns Into A Memory
as the stars gazed down on me peeking through the night sky
I sat on the porch or "stoop" as New Yorker's call it while I people watched
an older lady walked by walking her dog
a man across the street was unpacking his car while he kissed his wife
a little girl road her scooter into the night while her mom walked along her side
then a young girl and man walk past, holding hands and laughing
they reminded me of us
my heart sunk, but they looked so happy -- I had to smile
it's crazy to think that someone else was people watching us hold hands down while walking down the same exact sidewalk just two weeks ago
time changes everything, but time also heals
I've come to terms with the fact that we will never walk down that street again
we will never hold hands again
we will never share a laugh together
we will never be together
