It's August. What does August mean for baseball?

It means we're all a little bit crazy, and anything can - and will - grab our attention.

We've slogged through 100+ games now and with the summer heat comes crazy theories... it is baseball, after all, and what's summer baseball if not a perfect chance to try out any and all lucky tricks?
The LA Angels have a Rally Monkey (and he looks angry). The Cardinals have a Rally Squirrel (and he's a squirrel, so that tells you all you need to know about that).

The Mets? The Mets have a Rally Parakeet.

The bright neon yellow bird appeared at Citi Field last night and captivated Mets announcers Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez. The parakeet showed up at just the right time: after its sighting, the Mets scored two runs with 2-out hits by Juan Uribe and Michael Cuddyer and went up 2-0.
In the next inning, Jacob deGrom got into trouble to the tune of runners on the corners with none out. Gary and Keith called on the parakeet again, and deGrom got two strikeouts and some luck on an attempted sacrifice. Inning over!
Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes put on a neon yellow sleeve to match the parakeet and would go on to smack his first home run as a Met.

Coincidence? I think not!

Clubhouse favorite Juan Uribe joined in on the fun, conducting his post-game interview in parakeet yellow.
You ask me why I love baseball?

This is why I love baseball.

You stick a bunch of grown men in a clubhouse and make them hang out every single day for 6 months with a lot (a LOT) of downtime. You think they're going to conduct themselves like the adult professionals that they are, but baseball makes everyone a child. And it's just the best.
That is incredible. Simply incredible.
Ok. I did do that.
@danidee I may or may not have dressed up as the Rally Monkey for Halloween in elementary school
Omg, the rally monkey. I want it.
