So @poojas is encouraging everyone in the anime community to make introductions, and here is mine!
Long story short I hope everyone in the anime community feels welcome and makes a card to say hello!
I was really young when I first saw anime.
Like lots of girls my age, my introduction was Sailor Moon. Followed by Digimon (I was a very stubborn child and refused to watch Pokemon for some reason). And then Yu-Gi-Oh.
I don't know if anyone else felt the same way I did when I was a kid.
I didn't feel very inspired by anything I saw on TV. I'd missed Xena and Buffy. There were other things I liked, but all the girls were really... boring. It felt like they either existed to be rescued or they were nasty villains! So seeing Sailor Moon was very special for me. Honestly the scene in this block still brings me to tears. Serena was a flawed character, she made mistakes all the time. But she loved her friends, and that gave her strength. She even tried to save the villains! Defeating them was always a last resort. She was a hero. And I admired her so very much.
And then I found fandom.
I was a teeny tiny fangirl when I found YuYu Hakusho, but I loved it so much. And those two were my first ship. So many memories!
I was officially an anime fan.
Which meant I had to see every single anime I could find. I watched Cowboy Bebop first, and it was a revelation. Ghost in the Shell aired when I was still developing my sense of self and identity. It was definitely a trip to watch, but I think I needed it.
And I looked up to some of the characters, like Cagalli from Gundam Seed, and Riza from Fullmetal Alchemist. (And I might have had a thing for badass blonde military girls).
My ultimate favorites...
Samurai Champloo- A fusion of hip-hip and samurai culture
Tokyo Godfathers- A group of homeless people find an abandoned baby on Christmas
FLCL- Is it about puberty or giant robots? Maybe both.
Princess Mononoke- This is one of the most beautiful films of all time.
Gunslinger Girl- About young girls trained as assassins.
And then there's the music.
Something that always draws me to a piece of media is the soundtrack. I think everyone knows by now I can be very picky about what I like to watch, but I'm almost never picky about music. It seems like such a small detail but it's really essential to the experience for me. These are a few of my favorites (you can click through the videos on this block to see them all).
Cowboy Bebop- PEARLS
Ghost in the Shell- be human
Noir- Salva Nos
Fullmetal Alchemist- Requiem
Ruroni Kenshin- Heart of Sword
FLCL- bran new lovesong
So now you know a little more about me!
I'd like to get to know everyone here too. I really like the intro cards people have been making but if you're too busy right now you can always talk to me in the comments. ^_^
