Biologically, love is a powerful neurological condition like hunger or thirst, only more permanent. We talk about love being blind or unconditional, in the sense that we have no control over it. But then, that is not so surprising since love is basically chemistry. While lust is a temporary passionate sexual desire involving the increased release of chemicals such as testosterone and oestrogen, in true love, or attachment and bonding, the brain can release a whole set of chemicals: pheromones, dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, oxytocin and vasopressin. However, from an evolutionary perspective, love can be viewed as a survival tool – a mechanism we have evolved to promote long-term relationships, mutual defence and parental support of children and to promote feelings of safety and security.
You came and my world changed its shape It became a big heart Each of my dreams is like you and I embraced Now our life is only one verb The “I love you” shouts at us, do you hear it This love lightes brighter roads With you, I can create with stars A world that fits both of us With you I can find summers Looking at the sun in your eyes With you I can, I can do anything When you say „I love you” With you I can, I can do anything I can do anything you want Day after day I fall in love with you All my thoughts talk about you They seem like love songs that have a lot to tell me When I sleep and when I wake up I only seek to see you A breath, a kiss give me to drink
interesting you tagged me @allischaaff, I was actually getting a card together to write up soon on the comparisons of infatuation vs. love. I definitely think love is more than one thing and in a sense although there happen to be so many definitions and feelings for love...I still think there is no right or wrong answer to what truly is because it is so many things.
@rodiziketan @jordanhamilton @shannonl5 do you guys have some thoughts on this? :)
I also think romantic love has to do with finding someone who somehow makes you more you – like compatibility, but stronger. When you find someone who changes your whole world, turns your heart on its head, and challenges you in all the right ways to become a better you – that's falling in love.
@Armando7 The practical part of me knows that love has to do with a lot of chemical reactions in my brain, and an evolutionary strategy in which cooperation makes it easier for our human species to survive, but... at the same time, I still believe love is very special – sacred, almost – and that it's one of our highest callings as humans :) Showing love to one another, especially to those in need, is one of the best things we can do.
