Ronda Rousey has been making the rounds this week, stating she'd love to play Carol Danvers in the 2018 Marvel Film.
She's definitely tough enough for the part. Carol Danvers is an Air Force veteran, the youngest security captain in NASA's history, AND an Avenger... she's definitely not a character you'd want to mess with. Strong and brave, when her character was being developed in the 70s the intention was to use her character arc to reflect the womens' movements that were happening politically.
Ronda Rousey is a UFC fighter and she's very popular at the moment, so she'd be a great pick. But is there anyone else you'd like to see play the character?
Natalie Dormer is a fan favorite right now.
She's a regular in Game of Thrones, and her appearances in Elementary and The Hunger Games have revealed her ability to balance emotional vulnerability with strong will in her character work.
Katee Sackhoff is another fan choice.
Best known for her role on Battlestar Galactica, she'd bring the right kind of personality and energy to the role.
Uma Thurman is a little old for the role.
But if you saw her in Kill Bill, you know she could definitely handle a superhero movie. And she's from Boston, just like Carol.
Kathryn Winnick is my pick.
She's been a total badass as Lagertha in Vikings, she's a trained martial artist, and she's still obscure enough to be appealing to Marvel (since they frequently cast relatively unknown actors in roles like these).
2018 really can't arrive soon enough.
I feel like I've been waiting for this movie all my life. I love Carol, I love what she stands for, and I am so excited for Marvel to finally (FINALLY) make a solo movie starring a female superhero. DC will definitely hold me over with Wonder Woman, but it's still a long wait.
