It’s the wheel that wouldn’t die. It’s the wheel that wouldn’t change (much). It’s the ‘Trispoke’, the ‘3-spoke’, or simply the 'Hed 3'. Design for the original wheel began in the 1980’s, and save a major overhaul to the hub design in 2007, it has remained largely unchanged. Do you know how tuff HED 3 wheels are? Well it can certainly chop up your mid-ride snack into a smoothie!

Robot creator Masahiko Yamaguchi has demonstrated a robot which can balance, steer and correct itself while riding a fixed-gear bike. "A feature of this robot is, it pedals the bike with its own feet, and keeps its balance just by using the handlebars. I think this is probably a world first." "I'm interested in artificial intelligence, and in that context, I think intelligence and skills have equal value. So my purpose in creating this robot was to pursue intelligence from the skills side. While I was thinking of suitable topics, my local science museum demonstrated a cycling robot. So I decided to consider cycling as the skill, and build a bicycle robot." This. Is. So. Coo!!!

A Llama Crashes a Bike Race!

This race took place in Canada, and was luckily captured by racer Tim Bulger. The llama appears to be running next to the peloton, and when the racers make a righthand turn, he breaks up the field. We can only assume that the llama was working for the two riders who managed to get away after the interruption. The riders left in the chase group, however, appear to then begin drafting the llama, so it evens the score a bit. As for the llama? I can only imagine it felt something like this..

Mystery Artist Wanksy Paints Penises Around Potholes To Get Them Fixed [NSFW]

Armed with only a can of spray paint, an artist located in Manchester, England, is determined to rid the streets of potholes. How does one get rid of a potholes when city officials don't take the issue seriously? By drawing penises on them of course. The anonymous artist goes by the name "Wanksy", a clever spin-off of the famous street artists Banksy. The artist decided to draw attention to the "appalling" pothole-ridden streets after some of his cyclists friends were badly injured due to the potholes on the streets. “I wanted to attract attention to the pothole and make it memorable. Nothing seemed to do this better than a giant comedy phallus,” he said. “It’s also speedy, I don’t want to be in the road for a long time. It seems to have become my signature. I just want to make people smile and draw attention to the problem.” The artist uses non-permanent paint that washes out within a week or two. Despite the paint's short life span, the potholes have been getting fixed quicker than they were previously. So apparently a penis on the street elevates the urgency of road repair. "People will drive over the same pothole and forget about it,” the artist said. “Suddenly you draw something amusing around it, everyone sees it and it either gets reported or fixed." The local government is not amused.

The bike absolutely rips and the new 2015 paint scheme is all the rage. You'll see much more of this beautiful team bike during the race season, but in the interim Greg Addo memorializes that special new bike feeling with a short-video of his bike build at the King Kog Shop in NYC. Japanese Designers Unveil an Amazing 3D Printed Titanium Bike

A Japanese-based design studio, Triple Bottom line, in collaboration with DMM.make AKIBA, has snow shown some of the tremendous possibilities that 3d printing can provide in the production of bicycles. The design studio is now showing off their prototype of what they believe will become a reliable 3d printed road bike, the DFM01.The majority of the DFM01's components are 3d printed using selective laser sintering (SLS) of titanium. The bike, weighing at only 15 pounds, competes with light-weight carbon fiber framesets made via traditional manufacturing. The price for the final product has not yet been set, but is expected to cost a hefty 500,000 to 700,000 Japanese Yen ($4200 – $5900) for the frame alone, so this bike won’t be something your typical cycling hobbyist will be purchasing. However, it will be a bicycle that could be quite attractive to those who race on a consistent basis. What do you think about this unique 3D printed bike? Looks pretty futurist to me!
